The racing car party for my Little man

Last month my little man turned the BIG 4! It was no surprise that he had chosen a racing car themed party this year and with much excitement helped me organise his party.
We had a few weeks of sickness leading up to his party but we got there in the end and Declan was rather chuffed with the results.

Here are few things that we made leading up to the party, getting the kids excited and involved in the party planning....
Traffic lights collage craft, good decoration for a car party
but a great opportunity to teach the munchkins about road signs and safety.

Race car track collage
The birthday boy really wanted to make his own race track art so with a large piece of blue cardboard (his fave colour) we went to work with black paint, scissors and glue.
He picked racing cars and monster trucks from wrapping paper for us to cut out and picked people to watch the race from magazines.
For some odd reason he had to have all girls and women watching, go figure.
Then to top it off dirt, leaves and wood chips from the garden were collected to make extra details.

Racing car and Construction vehicle mobiles to hang at the party.
These racing car project can be found HERE and the Construction vehicle mobile HERE
both from DLTK's Crafts for Kids.

This next project is not racing car themed but both the munchkins got so excited when they saw it as we were searching for crafts that we did it anyway :)
I guess the party moved on to be a transportation theme in the end...lol

We found this craft HERE and turned it into a collage for the wall.
Again this proved to be a good opportunity to talk about fire safety and how fire fighters help people as we crafted away.
The birthday boy came up with idea's such as bubble wrap for the water coming from the fire hose and Cotton balls for smoke.

Then due to Mummy loving buntings and now able to sew, I thought I'd have a crack at sewing him up a personalised name bunting with racing checkers.
It now hangs in his bedroom.
We also had this grand plan of making part of our unused garden space out the back of the house into a mini race track for match box cars.
Although the garden was cleared, a concrete slab went down thanks to hubby and a friend, used car tires were used and a new garden put in around it......it didn't get finished :(
When we got to buying the paint for the concrete and gluing the fake grass down, the nice man at the hardware shop told us we had to wait!
Apparently we would have to let the concrete age at least 8 weeks before we could paint and glue onto
the surface or deal with it all peeling off and be a waist of money.
So we sucked it up and did the best we could and the kids still loved it.
In the coming months we will finish it properly but it's being loved all the same.
The munchkins have fun filling up the backs of the construction trucks with rocks from the garden and exploring the space.
Here are a few pics of the space during the party...
I will do a follow up post when the track is finished :D

Last of all is the Birthday cake!!! A design with inspiration from the woman's weekly book, then changed, added to and personalised by the birthday boy, hubby and myself.
Due to multiple allergies we made our butter cake dairy, egg and nut free with frosting and marsh mellow icing for the roads and Declan sign.

We cheated a tad by using the toy cars and the plastic road accessories but it was easy and it seemed to work, not to mention Declan's joy when seeing the completed version.

A fun party had by all and as usual enjoyable to plan and create for.

You're an amazing mum! An inspiration. In addition to the allergy stuff, I'm referring to all the artsy crafty things you do with them. Beautiful to see the pics and it inspires me to get into the crafts more!
