Miss 2's Bird party

Most of you probably already know that I'm a sucker for Children's party's..
I love the decorating, the organising, the fun, the laughter and the food :P

I make fairy bread, not because my kids are all that fond of it...but because I loooove it and it brings fond memories back of my childhood.

Last year for Thalia's birthday we had a ladybug cake but due to her being so young we didn't get too carried away with the theme apart from the cake and loot bags.

This year that she has blossomed in her personality, knows exactly what a birthday and birthday party is... a big smile appeared on my face and the planning begun.

With Thalia's help the theme was picked ...BIRDS

As the planning and decorations progressed, it turned into a theme of blue birds and pink blossoms
- a colour and picture combination that seemed just perfect for our little girl.

In preparation to my munchkins birthday parties in the last 2 years or so, we seem to have developed a bit of a unplanned tradition. A month or weeks prior to the party my munchkins and I dabble in crafty creations based on the party theme to decorate our house.

This both creates art/craft activities for us to do leading to the excitement of a party, saves us on party costs for decorations/loot bags, makes a nice homemade personal touch to the party and adds to the fun.

I love baking the cake and party foods and attempting to make them fit the theme....thank goodness I enjoy baking, as it can often be a challenge to come up with new and exciting cakes/party foods that are allergy friends and suit my children's requirements as well as tasting good for our guests.

below are some photo's from Thalia's bird party- a lovely afternoon/night with many friends

"PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" Chocolate Cake

For part of the school holidays we had my niece and nephew stay with us from nsw.
Amongst the drama of the floods (our house was not affected),Mum and I trying to update various Tuckie sites with flood and road information, trying to entertain two toddlers and two teenagers... I had a birthday cake to make.

My nephew was turning 15 and what better cake to make than a yummy Chocolate cake that isn't only quick and easy to make but it's also safe for my kids! not to mention it's one of the best chocolate cake recipes I've seen and eaten.

Thanks to a friend who passed on the recipe found here at HERSHEY'S PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" Chocolate cake

To make it allergy friendly you just need to twig a few ingredient's depending what allergies your catering for.

  • Egg free: Simply use an egg re placer such as 'orgran no egg" instead of egg
  • Nut free: Use Nestle's baking Co coa
  • Dairy free: Use dairy alternative such as rice milk or 'darifree' from allergy friendly foods and use nuttlex instead of butter for the frosting.
I'm not sure how it would turn out with gluten free cake but it's worth a try, let me know if you have a go.

We all enjoyed this chocolate cake to the max, the texture of a gorgeous mud cake and the taste to match.
Share the love and get baking! :)

Here is a pic of my nephew and his cake,
it's not the most attractive attempt but it tasted like heaven.

The Dino-mite party!

I loooooove planning party's for my munchkins, creating a theme based on a obsession or subject of interest to my children...okay okay I confess I'm a children's party addict! lol

This post is a quick look into Declan's 3rd Birthday party last month....after much commiserating with Mr 3 and leafing several times through the much loved cake books he picked his theme...
It should be no surprise that our Dino loving Declan decided on a roaring dinosaur party.
So the planning commenced, invites made, loot bags put together, sparkly play dough made for the dino's to stomp through, the munchkins loved creating dino art and crafts for party decorations, mummy found some dino print outs for colouring, dino footprints cut out for following, balloon's blown up, party treats baked.....and lastly the Mr Stegosaurus cake was completed!! phew
all in time for our friends to come on over for a roaring good time in dino land :)
Here are some pic's of the day
If you look through the screen door you will see a very excited little man waiting for his friends to arrive

footprints left by the dinosaurs for little feet to follow :)

the lovely wall art that my munchkins and I had great delight in creating

the play dough that sparkled! can't really see the sparkles in the photo but the green play dough was riddled in green sparkles and the blue play dough in blue sparkles...the children thought it was a bit special :P
